(SOLD) A hand carved symbolism wood panel by San Francisco, French artist, Jean Claude Gaugy. Signed and dated August 1973. Female figures and the Star of David. During the 1970's Gaugy sold in San Francisco as a street artist, this was early in his career. Measures 14ʺW × 1.75ʺD × 36ʺH.

Jean-Claude
Gaugy is a contemporary French artist known for his painted relief
sculptures of crystalline abstractions of figures, landscapes, and still
lifes. Gaugy works within the traditions of early European Modernist
painters such as Paul Klee and Georges Braque, referring to his work as
“Linear Expressionism.” Born on July 7, 1944 in Jura, France, he went on
to study at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and later apprenticed
with the celebrated sculptor.
